The start of a brand new year full of opportunity, optimism and excitement. I often think it would be nice to know a little more about the future, what’s in store or around the next bend, but inevitably I always come to the same conclusion. You’re better off not knowing what track destiny has got you on. Glancing back there have certainly been some moments that made me smile (swear and grimace) over the past twelve months and I’m sure there will be plenty more up the road to look forward to. Just to keep the dream alive, here's my SuperSix from 2009...

1) Realising that there is such a thing as long, warm, evenings after a dark winter and that spring and the feeling of freedom always ride hand in hand together.

2) Riding the beautiful roads around Vittorio Veneto, Italy, at the launch of the new Cannondale SuperSix Hi-Mod and watching the Giro Team Time Trial in Venice. It’ll be hard to top a week like that.

3) Surviving the elements to conquer the Race Across the Alps. The humble feeling of having a team dedicated to your every pedal stroke and nauseas aftermath of such an effort is satisfaction defined.

4) Spending the day with my personal “therapist” and not being charged for the pleasure.

5) Being part of the inaugural Cent Cols Challenge. What an experience. It’s what life is all about. Make friends, ride your bike, slay the mountains. Simple but effective.

6) Owning the Pyrenees for two days at the end of October. Twenty degrees centigrade at the summit of the Tourmlet. I am forever in dept to my angels above for bringing Summer back for that ride.
