15:1 with Cadel Evans

Cadel Evans has been at the top of the professional peloton for as long as I can remember, initially ripping up the dirt to become a multiple mountain bike World Cup winner with the Volvo-Cannondale team, before switching to the road. It's rare that a rider can make the change so successfully but Cadel has proven that his talent and consistency verges on super human. With two second place Tour de France finishes in his palmarès could it be the year Cadel finishes on the top step in Paris? Not wanting to distract him too much the week before the Tour kicks off, here's what Cadel had to say when hit with 15 of the best...

You can ride with anyone from past or present, who would it be?
Miguel Indurain.

You’re having a bad day on the bike what is the morale boosting item in the mussette bag?
Coca Cola (Mars bars are kept in the team car)

What's the race you should have won - near misses or just dreaming?
Too many to list, probably '96 U23 MTB worlds was one of the most frustrating.

Everyone likes going downhill fast - what's your favourite descent?
The descent from Col du Bonnet de Restefond is a ripper (Tdf 08).

Obviously the best bike you've ever ridden is the one you’re on now, what's the second best bike you've ridden?
No, the best bike I've ridden on (for racing) was the Ridley Helium.

Do you have a golden moment when riding/racing that you always look back on with a smile?
Taking yellow at the tour as a cripple without team mates.

And the worst moment?
Too many…

What is your favourite après race beverage?
Beer!

You hit shuffle on your I-Pod, what’s the track you hope comes up top of the list?
Anything by Paul Kelly.

What’s your take on the UCI bike weight limit of 6.8kg? Good for the sport or got to go?
It needs revision from the industry and rider safety should be the main priority. I don't want to race with people whose 6kg bikes fall apart in front of me at 80km/h.

What’s your favourite new product?
Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate wheels.

If you weren’t a bike rider, what would you be?
Probably not much.

Where is your favourite place to ride?
The mountains in Switzerland and Colorado.

If you could have one super power what would it be?
Invincibility.

And finally, the debate continues…Shimano or Campag?
Whatever is free.

Nice final answer there Cadel! Keep it tyre side down & good luck in France!!
